As a bargain lover, I always like to find out whether you can find a high end product at a cheaper price, so when I received the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette as a gift from my sister for my birthday back in January, I thought it would be a great opportunity to see whether there is a more affordable option if you don’t want to spend a lot on your makeup. This review is not supposed to be ‘throwing shade’ at either brand, I am just curious to see the differences and whether the ‘dupe’ is worth trying!
As I mentioned, I am now in possession of the beautiful Naked 3 Palette from Urban Decay, which is one of the most recommend products in the beauty community in my opinion and currently retails at £39.50. Alternatively, in it’s place and up until this year, I have been using the W7 ‘In the Nude’ Palette. (Side Note: I have lots of other W7 products that are great if you are looking for affordable makeup.)
I had seen the W7 palette talked about in the beauty community as a ‘dupe’ for the Naked 3 Palette, but interestingly, the W7 palette has had a packaging change since I received mine and is now called ‘Colour Me Nude‘. The eyeshadows however are exactly the same as my older version and it is only £5.32!! on Amazon.
With the old W7 packaging, you can see that side by side, the outer packaging looks almost exactly the same. The main difference is in the inner packaging i.e. the Urban Decay palette has shade names, as well a mirror and more sturdy packaging. The W7 palette feels more like a tin and does not have shade names included. Now that W7 have changed the packaging, I can’t comment on whether the new packaging is a similar ‘tin’ style.
With the palettes side by side, you can see that the eyeshadow colours are similar but not exactly the same. I took swatches of each colour also to compare them and see whether the pigment/colour would be the same.
Excusing my extreme arm close up, on the left are the Urban Decay shadows, and on the right are the W7 shadows. As you can see, the colours are not exactly a ‘dupe’ but the majority of them are pretty close. The main difference is the pigment, as it took a lot more rubbing into the W7 shadows to get the colour to show up. The Urban Decay shadows are also a lot more shimmery, whereas the W7 shadows have larger glittery flecks in them instead.
Personally, if I was on a budget, I would be inclined to choose the W7 palette, as the colours are still pretty pigmented and it would save me over £30! In fact, when I asked my boyfriend he thought it was a trick question as to which side was more expensive, he said they looked exactly the same! If you wanted to buy the Urban Decay palette, you would be getting better quality eyeshadows in my opinion, however i’m not sure whether the price tag would be enough to sway me if I was purchasing this myself.
I think that the W7 palette is a close dupe and would be a great buy if you are on a budget! If you are interested, you can find the ‘dupe’ W7 palette here.
What do you think of this dupe? Do you have either palette or will you now be purchasing one? I would also love to try out any other dupes that you know about. A quick thank you also to everyone who has continued reading my beauty ramblings for the last few months, I really appreciate all the support!
