Edit in 2020: Physicians Formula is no longer Cruelty Free due to selling in China! I loved the products at the time but won’t be repurchasing due to this change.
One of my favourite things to do (if you weren’t already aware) is to try out new make up brands. I was really excited to see a Physicians Formula stand on my recent holiday as I had been really keen to try their renowned ‘Butter Bronzer’! As far as I know we can’t easily get this brand on the highstreet in the UK (please let me know if you have found them anywhere!)
Who are Physicians Formula?
Physicians Formula pride themselves on ‘healthy beauty’ and ensure all of their products suit sensitive skin meaning they appeal to a wide range of users.
Products I Purchased
Physicians Formula were running a 3 for 2 offer across their range, so of course, I picked up 3 products: the Butter Bronzer in ‘Light’, BB cream in ‘Light/Medium’ and one of their Murumuru Butter Lip Creams in the shade ‘Pinkini‘.
Altogether the products came to around £18 which I think is a great price for 3 products. The brand are really affordable which only adds to it’s appeal! It’s fantastic that Physicians Formula is also fully cruelty free, I just wish they were sold in the UK!
To give the products a fair first impression, I added all 3 of the products to my usual makeup routine whilst I was on holiday.
Firstly, I applied the BB cream without any primer to test out how it would apply. As you can see and as you would expect from a BB cream, there is not a lot of coverage after one layer but it is really easy to apply and blends like a dream! I quite like that it doesn’t cover up my freckles, but if you were looking for coverage i.e full sunburn coverage then I would recommend trying their foundation instead. I wouldn’t say that this shade is light/medium however as it is definitely too dark for my skin without a tan. I wish i’d picked up the lighter shade too as it would have been perfect for a lighter makeup day. Definitely something to bear in mind if you are looking to try this out.
Secondly, I tried out the Butter Bronzer in the shade ‘Light’, that *spoiler alert* I am a bit obsessed with! It smells like pina colada which I personally LOVE (one of the best cocktails in my humble opinion) but you may want to avoid if scented products aren’t for you. This product definitely gives me a holiday vibe with it’s scent and I am so happy to find a bronzer that doesn’t apply bright orange on my fair skin! Again, it is really easy to apply and the packaging is so pretty. One thing I would say is that the mirror isn’t the most practical as you have to flip between the product and mirror to use it but to be honest I probably won’t use the mirror very much so it’s not really an issue for me!
Lastly I applied one of the best parts of a makeup look, the lip! The butter lip cream definitely lives up to its name and glides straight on. It is pigmented and leaves a glossy pink sheen. One of my favourite things about the product is that it contains SPF 15 to protect my lips. This will definitely be a staple in my makeup bag if we do get some warmer UK weather. The only thing I didn’t like as much about the product is how wide the applicator is. It is quite difficult to be precise so i’m not sure how easy a darker shade would be to apply.
Overall, I am really impressed by the brand and products that I tried. Any criticisms I do have are really minor as it is quite difficult to find anything really negative about the products. I admit that it is quite unusual for me to love the formulas of all the products, but this time Physicians Formula are definitely doing it right. Now all that’s left to do is start a campaign for Physicians Formula to be sold on the UK highstreet, who’s with me?!
