Bargain Beauty Products with Approved Food

*This post contains gifted products, all opinions are all my own.

You may be wondering why a website called ‘Approved Food’ sells beauty products? Well, before I get to the answer I want to explain who Approved Food are. Approved Food are an online discount retailer who sell a wide range of food as well as beauty and household goods at bargain prices. They are a bit different to the norm however, because they specialise in products that may have been discontinued, have damaged outer packaging and short-dated products (especially for food).

After I was approached by the lovely Abigail from Faith PR, one of the reasons why I jumped at the opportunity to work with Approved Food is of course partly due to their heavily discounted products, but primarily because of their strong ethic to reduce unnecessary waste. According to their website ‘every year in the UK over 7 million tonnes of food and drink is thrown away, a lot of which has past its ‘best before’ date, but would still be perfectly good to eat.’ That statistic really shocked me, so I wanted to do my part in raising awareness of this website.

I was kindly provided with a voucher from Faith PR to select some beauty products from Approved Food for review. After reading about products with ‘short best before dates’, I imagine some of you may have some reservations about whether these beauty products are safe for use, which I have to admit I was initially apprehensive about too. However, after speaking with Abigail from Faith PR who works closely with Approved Food, she advised the below;

The beauty products are cheaper for a number of reasons. They may be from cancelled orders leaving a bulk order with the supplier, the packaging may have been damaged superficially which some retailers regard as a write off even though the product is totally fine, the shades may be a bit unusual and some retailers have struggled to sell them or some items might be in seasonal packaging.

With regards to ‘best before’ dates, I’d just like to reiterate Approved Food never sell anything past the ‘use by’ date and everything on the site is perfectly safe to use. Items past their ‘best before’ date are still safe to use and consume but may have slight issues with quality (e.g.: the product might start to separate). While this is mainly for the food and drink items it can also apply to some beauty products.

I also conducted some research myself, and found out that with beauty products especially, their expiration date usually applies after the product has been opened. All of the products I ordered came fully sealed and unused. Helpfully, Approved Food also include the best before dates of the products on their website too but these did not apply to the beauty products in this instance.

So what beauty products did I get?

Burts Bees Intense Hydration Cream Cleanser
Yes to Face Masks (Lucky Dip Product)
Yes to Blueberries Age Refresh Cleansing Facial Wipes
Yes to Blueberries Smooth and Shine Shampoo for Frizzy Hair
Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Cleansing Pads
Nip + Fab No Needle Fix Eye Cream

I was really excited to see so many well known brands on the website (they even stock Urban Decay!) but most importantly for me they also had a lot of fully cruelty free brands too. With the £30 voucher and free P&P I was kindly gifted, I was able to pick a wide variety of cruelty free products, some that I knew I already loved and some that I really wanted to try. As I mentioned before, all of the products came completely sealed and arrived within a few days of ordering.

One thing to note is that although completely sealed, one of the products came with grubby packaging which was a little bit disappointing. I’m not sure if this may have been why they couldn’t sell it previously in store, but after giving it a wipe it was as good as new as you can see in the above picture! This may not happen with every order but as you know I am always honest with you!

Nevertheless, it felt really good to be saving on waste by getting my beauty products from this website. When taking into account the RRP of the products, I was advised that I would have saved a total of £20.45 overall. I would highly recommend taking a look at Approved Food as you never know, one of your current favourite products, or one that you thought had been discontinued may just be there waiting for you! Thank you again to Faith PR and Approved Food for the products!

I would love to know if you have ever bought anything from Approved Food or whether you will do now? What do you think, should I try out any of the other products such as the food? Leave me a comment down below.
