2021 UK Small Business Guide

2020 really was the year for shopping local and helping our small businesses to keep going! That has definitely continued into 2021 with some really innovative products and businesses making their mark.

One of the many reasons why I love small businesses is that they tend to care deeply about their products and consider their ethical standpoint more closely. I find myself choosing to buy from small brands over big companies, especially for gifts.

I have put together a non exhaustive list of some of my favourite small businesses (PR products marked with an asterisk *) I also have included a small business wish list with companies that I really want to try.

(All of these brands do not test on animals as per their websites or Instagram. Please check out their links for further information and for whether this has been certified)

So without further ado, here are some of my favourites!

Boho Vegan Cosmetics

Handmade, vegan and cruelty free bath and wax melt products made by the lovely Jackie. Her products are known for their amazing swirly texture and incredible scents. Prices start at £5.45 for the whipped body butters and £7.45 for whipped soaps.

The Kind Beauty Box*

A cruelty free and vegan subscription box for only £20 a month! Always full size products and you can also change to bi-monthly for £25 if you find you have too many products to try. This is one of my favourite subscription boxes i’ve ever had and I have tried a lot! Use my code KINDKATE to get £5 off your first box.

Abbey Perfumery

Perfumes hand crafted in Sheffield that are vegan and cruelty free. You can pick up their discovery boxes for free (only pay £3.95 P&P) to sample their selection. I loved their Amber Skies perfumes so much that I am looking to get a full size for my wedding!

EcoBox UK*

A monthly subscription that includes four eco friendly products for £26.60 a month. A great box if you are looking to transition to plastic free or cruelty free products. I love that they support fellow UK businesses too.

Ador Selfcare*

Vegan and cruelty free self care products at affordable prices. Ador Selfcare are big on sustainability and reducing plastic waste. I use their reusable pads all the time and I am so glad they also introduced me to the konjac sponge! Their vegan self care kit is currently on sale for £19.99.

Tales of Toria Soaps

Incredible Disney inspired bath and body products. They are so popular, that they sell out after each restock on a Friday night so you need to be fast! Soaps and bath bombs start at around £3- £4.

Lucent Studios

Made by a small team in Norwich, Lucent Studios make stunning and affordable jewellery. Keep an eye out for their seconds sales as well where products are heavily discounted. P.S. this hand sanitiser spray from Pretty Special Beauty* is great too!

Suck It and Say*

Created by the lovely Holly’s Lollies, Suck it and Say are an edible greetings card company. They have lots of seasonal themed lollipops and lockdown lollipops! Their large lollipops are £4.95 and would make an unusual gift.
